Hello everyone, Thank you for signing our
"paddle" interest list. I'm so glad to have such a large group of
folks show up at our open house. I'm looking forward to start out by
having a paddle day on the John Day River. As I said at the club room, The best
and earliest day to get started would be Sunday May 25th. High water will be
11:59AM, 7.2 ft and low tide 5:45PM 1.6ft. This will allow us to start at
the John Day boat ramp at 10:00 (or earlier) To ride the tide up to the end of
the river and under the new bridge into new habitat. Then back with the tide
stopping at my place for refreshments and BBQ. If you go to Google Earth and
look at the river it still shows the old tide gate at the upriver end. It has
been breached and a small bridge installed that you can paddle under into what
was fallow farm land which is now wetland. Lots of new wildlife in my
neighborhood! I will need lots of help putting this all together so please
step up and call or email me back if you can help. Also, there is a call
out for extra watercraft, so if you know anyone with a paddle boat they can
lend, please call!

P.
S. Your participation will at your own risk, not Astoria Yacht Club’s. Please
let me know if you need life jackets, I do have a few I can lend. Also we will
have a safety boat tagging along.
It will be great fun! Toby
